Built-in Flag Languages - (14)

—English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese—

Alternative to Ctrl+Shift+U

Read Aloud

From any Flag Language—

  • Right click anywhere off the canvass (white page.)

  • Right click, then with your mouse select a word where you'd like the narration to begin.

  • Click that word then, from the pop-up menu, select Read aloud from here. 

​That action will start the narration, and Voice controls will appear atop the page.

To go from tab to tab—

  • Pause the narration by clicking the Voice controls.

  • As above, select a word with your mouse, then from the pop-up menu select Continue to read aloud from here.

Non-Flag Languages 

All Other Languages

Read Aloud

From any Flag Language—

(Prior to starting, the Voice options must be visible.  If they aren't, click anyone of the Flag Languages and initiate the feature.)

  1. Click on Voice options.

  2. From the pop-up menu, under Choose a voice, click on whichever language appears in the container box.

  3. From the drop-down menu of voices, click a voice that speaks the language you intend to use.​ (Example, Microsoft Christel Danish Online Natural)

  4. Click the Translation icon on the URL bar.

  5. Whichever language appears in the container box, click it.

  6. From the menu of languages that appears, first check Always translate pages from English, then click whichever language shows in the container box, find your desired language and click on it. (Example, Danish)

  7. When Danish reappears in the container box, click Translate on the white button.

  8. That action triggers the page to be translated to Danish, and the Voice controls to appear on atop your page.

  9. Select the page title, then click the Voice controls to start the narration.

  10. To return to the Flag language you had been on, first go to Voice options and change the voice to an English speaker. 

  11. Next, click the Translate icon again (on the URL bar,) then click the dark button that reads Show original.

Right‑to‑left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew do not display correctly on this site. However, to read a page of a RTL language, copy it in any Flag language, then paste it on the Google Translate platform. A link to which can be found in the footer. 

​​Global Note:

Keyboard shortcuts may vary by country or specific hardware. If your browser is set to a language other than English, these menu names will appear in your native language, but the menu order remains the same.​
