Copilot Intro

Copilot is a marvelous tool for exploring the Totally Literate site. It can help you understand text more clearly, follow ideas more confidently, and move through the site with ease.

Copilot can help you:

  • Explain vocabulary

  • Summarize passages

  • Clarify meaning

  • Answer questions about the text

  • Compare ideas

  • Check your understanding

  • Explore topics more deeply

As you explore the Totally Literate site, Copilot can assist whenever you need clarity or a better sense of what the text is saying. You can use it any time to check meaning, ask questions, or follow ideas more comfortably.

To learn how to use the Copilot Companion efficiently, we encourage you to read the Guide below. However, if you prefer to go straight onto the Copilot platform, click F9 from this or any other page.

Whether you read the Copilot Companion Guide first or not, we suggest you visit the Epic Poem, which offers an infinite number of questions you could ask. â€‹

Welcome to your personal companion on Totally Literat!​

Copilot Platform

Copilot, your ever-present companion on Totally Literate, is willing and able to help you in numerous sundry ways, such as by — 

  • explaining idiomas and figures of speech 

  • summarizing stories or paragraphs so they’re easier to grasp

  • translating sentences or whole pages 

  • analyzing any page, Word doc, or PDF  

  • correcting faulty pronunciation 

  • defining words and guiding you to other outside resources where synonyms, antonyms, etc. can be found and read aloud.

  • providing guidance on how to read translated text with the proper TTS voice

  • answering questions in either text or speech

  • speaking in two or more languages in the same conversation

How to access and exit Copilot —​

  • Click F9

  • Click Read aloud. As you do the narration will begin, and voice controls and Voice options will appear on the taskbar atop your screen.

How toTranslate —​

  • After the narration has begun, pause it by clicking the center icon on the Voice controls as depicted below.

  • Next click Voice options. When you do a pop-up will appear.

  • In the pop-up above, click the faint box that says,"Choose a voice" When you do that a long drop-down menu of TTS voices appears, as the one pictured below.

  • From the drop-down menu, click on the voice you want. (For this example, we have chosen Arabic (Egypt.)

  • Now that we have picked the voice we want, we click "X" on the far right of the taskbar depicted below. That will make both the Voice controls and Voice options disappear, thus indicating our Arabic TTS voice will read the text.

  • To translate the text from English to the Arabic we've chosen, we must click the down-pointing caret next to Translate, not on Translate itself nor the icon beside it. When you do, the drop-down menu as the one shown below will appear.

  • Click Arabic. When you do, presto—the text now appears in Arabic.

  • Next, click Read aloud. The page will be read from right-to-left in  the Arabic dialect we've chosen.​

How to use "Chat with Copilot" when on its platform —​

  • Click the Copilot on the top right of your screen

  • Click on Chat with Copilot. That opens the Sidebar on which you can either type or ask your questios

How to use Chat with Copilot when on a page —​

  • Click F9

How to leave the Copilot platform and return to the page you had been viewing —​

Before pressing F9 on your keyboard, you must switch back to the TTS voice you were using.

  • On Voice options, select an English voice.

  • Now you're safe to press F9.

On this page you'll see how using language translation empowers students. It gives them access to information and resources in different languages. It helps them learn about new cultures, new peoples, regional histories, and languages. For young students especially under eight years of age, it provides a simple structure for exploring one or more languages at an age when they naturally absorb patterns and sounds more easily.

Now please venture to the Epic Poem page seen under Literature. This page will give you full understanding of Copilot's capability. Copilot will answer any question you may have about the poem, such as who the tale of love is between, where does the tale begin, how does it end. 

Incredibly, your questions will be answered either in text or speech, and whether they're in English, French, Arabic or a host of other languages.
