Immersive Reader on Smartphones

Shows whether or not Immersive Reader is accessible

Availability of Immersive Reader on Smartphones

Immersive Reader on Edge can translate any page of the Totally Literate website into over 70 languages, of which 40 of these languages can be read aloud.

Accessing Immersive Reader

To access IR the book icon must be present on your phone, as depicted in the URL next to the kangaroo above. However, if it is not present or if it mysteriously vanishes, you can make it reappear by tapping the refresh icon next to the book icon above.

Features of the Immersive Reader

Example: Totally Literate Overview page (Shown below)

  1. By tapping on the first icon atop the image, a list of languages will appear from which you should choose one to translate the page into multiple languages.

  2. Going left to right, by tapping the next icon, the webpage will be read aloud.

  3. By tapping on the next icon, you will have the opportunity to increase spacing between words, change fonts, column size, and background colors. You also have the option to focus on one, three, or five lines at a time.

  4. By tapping the last icon on the row, you will have the option to reverse the colors.

  5. Lastly, by selecting any word on the page, you can either have its definition looked up on the Web or have Copilot give you the definition in the context which it is used. "Diligent," for example, might be a word that many students would like to get a better handle on.
