Adobe PDFs
Being that there are 28 Adobe PDFs on the Totally Literate website, it is imperative for members to know how to use them.
Once a PDF is clicked on in the Members Access area, it will open on the Adobe platform as it does pictured below.

Steps to use PDFs —
Step One:
We click the hamburger menu on the top left of our display, as shown in the picture above. After we do so, our screen will look as it does below.

Step Two:
We click on View, then we scroll over and down and pick either Single-page view or Two-page view. Then our screen will look as the one pictured below.

PDFs in English and Spanish should be opened in the Two-page view. In this view the cover page may be inserted so as to keep the stories of the two languages in sync on opposing pages..
Below is a Two-page view of two stories in both English and Spanish that are laid out properly.

Step Three (Words Per Minute):
After clicking on "Reading," the Preferences menu will pop up. Next we look at the rectangular box with a black border. If necessary, we change the figures in it from 150 to 120. At this slower rate, the delivery is still within the normal range but the words are drawn out somewhat thus easier to understand.

Step Four:
We click on "Preferences" again, shown circled in the picture below.

Step Five:
When we click on "Preferences" this time, a user box will pop up, like the one pictured below without purple markings. Then we click on "Reading," which will make the voice-option box pop up. Now we click on the caret next to "Microsoft Helena Desktop," to find another speaker.
However, because her native tongue is Spanish, and in addition, speaks English fairly well. We will keep her to read aloud both languages. But if we prefer to read just English, then we could choose "Microsoft Zira Desktop" perhaps, who speaks English credibly but Spanish decidedly poor.

Step Six: (Read Out Loud):
To activate "Read Out Loud," we go back to "View," then to "Read out loud," and lastly to "Activate Read Out Loud," as shown pictured below.

Step Seven:
To commence reading aloud, we merely click on whichever passage we want to hear first. The narration will stop at the end of the passage, or it will stop sooner if we click elsewhere on some other passage.
