Three: If you want to read the front matter, tap the caret (>) on the navigation bar. If you prefer not to read it, tap the cover. That will take you directly to the Table of Contents where you can access all the stories.

Four: Hold your phone vertically except for stories that carry over to a second page, such as stories 1 and 2 of Flipbook 1. For such two-page stories, you must hold your phone horizontally, that is, in the landscape position.

Five: To play the recording, whether you're in landscape or portrait view, tap the "+" sign on the left end of the toolbar to make the sound box easier to get to and tap. Sometimes you may have to reposition the text with your fingers and make the text even bigger.

Six: To resize the text to its normal size and listen, tap on the "-" sign (the "+" will have changed into the "-" sign).

Seven: To pause the recording, you must make the text large again to get at the sound box, then tap the two vertical bars within it.

Shows that one's smartphone must be held horizontally in order to read the whole story and access the voice box on the second page. Story 2 on a smarphone, which covers two pages, must be held horizontally

Eight: When you're ready to listen to another story, you can use the carets on the toolbar to go forward or backward in the book. Or, if the entire story is shrunken down so that its entirety shows on your screen, you can use your fingers to flip from page to page.

Nine: When you're through listening to a book, tap the caret on the bottom left of your display to return to the menu.

Notes:

  • Titles are linked for easy navigation.

  • Music plays continuously until the narration begins. If you prefer to mute it, you can do so at any time by tapping the speaker icon on the toolbar then follow two simple steps.

  • Because significant manual dexterity is required to use these books on a smartphone, we recommend that children under 8 or 9 years of age do not use them.
